Lucky Money Sends $2 Billion Across the Globe

Founded in 1991 by Filipino-American entrepreneur Rene Medina, Lucky Money has expanded to over 90 branches and agent locations in the USA. Originally focused to serve the money transfer needs of the Filipino community, Lucky Money is now moving towards providing the same fast, secure and reliable remittance services to other Asian countries.

User Experience Challenge and Brand Objectives

In early 2010 Lucky Money received a wake up call from a Philippine banking connection. Their contact mentioned that a Silicon Valley start-up named Xoom was doing thousands of online money remittance transfers. Lucky Money had built their success the old fashioned way with good customer service at brick and mortar locations, but in an instant they realized they better innovate or lose market share. They had built an online payment system but it was poorly designed and hard to use. The redesign objectives were to make the site easy to use and to create a brand that inspired confidence and trust.

User Experience Solution

Lucky Money came to the 1stWave team to help them create an online brand and user experience that could surpass with Xoom and other money remittance services such as Western Union and Money Gram. 1stWave focused their message and simplified the user experience. The redesigned homepage went from a dozen equally weighted action items to one primary action: sending money. The new site is slated to launch in early 2011.
